Ginger Water
a summer staple
This current heat wave affects many states; the relentless heat is exhausting. Now is a great time to ensure you stay hydrated, and this simple drink does the trick. Ginger has long been prized for its medicinal qualities, yet many of us overlook its daily use.
Ginger water is simply water infused with fresh ginger root.
Its preparation requires only two ingredients—ginger and water- but I add a slice or two of lemon to balance the ginger. This recipe that I use also calls for honey, which is optional but does lend a sweetness to the mix.
Served hot, it’s a comforting ginger tea; served cold, it becomes a crisp, invigorating drink, one that your body will benefit from in the heat.
Ginger is a powerful anti-inflammatory; it aids in joint and muscle relief, supports the immune system, regulates blood sugar, and is great for digestive issues, but there’s so much more to ginger. It may even help with weight loss- worth a try!
Ginger Water
1 to 2 inches of fresh ginger root
2 cups of filtered water
Optional: juice of half a lemon
Optional: 1 teaspoon raw honey
Peel and slice or grate the ginger. Add to cold water in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 10 minutes. Strain into a glass. Add lemon and honey if using. Drink warm or let cool and drink over ice. The simmering method extracts significantly more active compounds than simply steeping.

It's stifling here in Kansas! I can't wait to try this🤗
I first read about ginger water in Laura Ingalls Wilder books. 🥰
